about

Part 1 orchestra & acoustic guitar.
Part 2 orchestra and industrial sound-sculptures with acoustic and electric feedback guitar. My daughter Suvi Hall was the only other player on this track and disc, the lovely trumpet section used around the castanets.

I wrote and conceived this about 10 years ago when I was in Chalgrove Oxford. writing the main chords of the orchestrated piece onto paper with the solo notes in my head. In 2011 I decided to record it in a similar way as my Trinity Symphony using a MC-909 with an orchestral sound card and playing it in real time. Using a Godin guitar and keyboard to trigger the sounds onto the MC-909.

Once all the layers of orchestral sound were down, mixed, and edits done. I set about putting the solo guitars on, the Godin sounded nice on the acoustic parts and the Fender Stratocaster was used on the industrial sound-sculptures using Braun battery shaver, crocodile clips, slide bars, & e-bow + all the usual implements that I have grown to hear as musical. These parts were played in one go as I wanted a natural feel to Phoenix there was no copy and paste and very little edits it had to be right, it took a few goes. I hope you like the final result I have put it in 2 parts as I realise this might be needed from a listening point of view. I was also unaware at the time of the date it was finished. 11/9/11
Embarkation. We are all on a journey with trillions of embarkation points
